BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 1, 2011) - Rollins
scored two runs on seven hits against the Fighting Knights of Lynn
in the Tars' fourth straight loss to drop a 6-2 decision Friday
afternoon at the McCusker Sportsplex.
With the loss, Rollins drops to 18-13 overall and 1-6 in the
Sunshine State Conference. The Tars have lost four straight, which
is the longest losing streak this season for Rollins, and also the
first Friday loss.
First baseman John Avanzino broke LU's (18-13, 3-4) starting
pitcher Andrew Virgili's no hitter in the fifth on a single to the
right side. He was also the first and only walk of the day by
Shawn Kale. Avanzino had two hits and an RBI on the day.
Tony Brunetti put Rollins up on the board in the seventh after
reaching on a single and taking second on a Kale wild pitch.
Brunetti then scored on a one out single by Avanzino to put Lynn up
by two, 3-1.
Rollins went scoreless in the eighth before putting up a run in
the top of the ninth on a Kevin Mager solo shot to left. Mager now
has three home runs on the year.
Tars starting pitcher Mike Howard (3-2) picked up his second
loss of the year tossing seven complete innings and striking out
four batters. Howard gave up two walks and four earned runs.
Lynn's Andrew Virgili had a career day with 11 strikeouts
retiring four of the first six Rollins batters.
