WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2011) - The
sixth-ranked Rollins men's tennis team earned its fifth straight
win, defeating 36th-ranked Wayne State 8-1 on
Tuesday.
The Tars moved to 7-4 on the season while Wayne State falls to
7-3.
Jeff Morris and Arturo Baravalle defeated Thomas Ducret and
Melvin Joseph 8-2 in the top doubles spot while Nick Rowlands and
Jason Alabaster downed Aman Gill and Michael Fitzgerald 8-1 in the
No. 2 position. Rollins swept through doubles as Sebastian Hafner
and David Yawalker teamed to down Oscar Gamarra and Matt Fisher 8-3
at No. 3
In the top singles flight, fifth-ranked Morris made easy work of
Ducret 6-0, 6-1 while 46th-ranked Baravalle downed Gill,
6-3, 3-0, ret. at No. 2.
Hafner defeated Gamarra 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Yawalkar downed
Fitzgerald 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot. Alabaster defeated
Joseph 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 at No. 5 while Wayne State scored at the No.
6 position with Rowlands dropping a 0-6, 6-3, 10-3 decision to
Szydlowski.
Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, March 16 against
NAIA powerhouse Auburn-Montgomery.
