WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2011) - Senior Alex Venegas kept the Black Bears scoreless through four innings as the Rollins Tars captured a 5-2 victory over Maine Friday night at Alfond Stadium. Rollins will compete in the championship game of the 63rd Annual Rollins College Baseball Week tournament.

With a 4-2 record throughout Baseball Week, Rollins (15-6) will face Maine in the championship game at 6 tomorrow afternoon. Penn and Georgetown will square off in the consolation game at noon.

Rollins' top performers over Maine included John Avanzino as the first baseman finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs to extend his hit streak to 11 consecutive games. Nick Adams also finished 3-for-4 with a run. Zach Persky, Tony Brunetti, and Kevin Mager each notched a hit against the Bears.

The Tars combined for four runs between the second and third frames and scored the final run of the ball game in the fifth. Kevin Mager scored in the second after reaching on a single and making his way around the bases on a stolen base and wild pitch. He then scored on an Avanzino RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Rollins scored three runs with Nick Adams scoring from second on a one-out single by Zach Persky. Chris Holloway scored the second run of the inning on a Stephen Perakslis balk, while the final run was scored by Persky as he was driven in on an Avanzino RBI single.

Rollins' lone run in the fifth came from Tony Brunetti who reached on a single, stole second, and scored on another Avanzino RBI single.

After Maine scored in the third and fifth inning, Alex Venegas (1-1) entered in the top of the fifth to get the last out over Maine and the win. Venegas tossed 4 1/3 innings on the hill and fanned three Maine batters. The right-handed hurler gave up three hits and no runs or walks.

Maine starting pitcher Stephen Perakslis (0-4) took the loss as he gave up all five of Rollins' runs in five innings of work. He struck out three and walked three, while giving up nine hits.
