WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2011) - The
Rollins Tars baseball team held off the Penn Quakers for a 3-2
victory Thursday night at Alfond Stadium. The Tars now stand at
3-2 in the Baseball Week standings.
With the win, Rollins improves to 14-6 on the season, while the
Penn Quakers drop to 2-4 for the year.
In his second consecutive start of the year, Mike Howard (3-0)
put on another great performance tossing 5 2/3 innings on the hill
giving up one run to earn the win. Howard improves his ERA to
2.03.
Rollins started off strong scoring a pair of runs in the opening
frame. Kevin Mager drove in Chris Holloway from third as he
reached on an error by Penn third baseman Dan Williams. Mager then
scored on a Steve Betcherman single to right.
Betcherman scored Rollins' only other run in the fourth on a
one-out single through the left side. The Tars were kept scoreless
through the final four innings of play, but kept the Quakers
scoreless through the first five. Penn's Dan Williams scored in
the sixth and Jeremy Maas in the eighth.
Left-handed pitcher Cori Warren closed for the Tars giving up
one hit to earn the win in one inning of work.
Penn left fielder Jeremy Maas finished 4-for-4 with a run and a
stolen base.
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as the Tars
host the Maine Bears. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. For live
