WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2011) - The Rollins
Tars baseball team dropped a 12-2 decision to the Georgetown Hoyas
Wednesday night at Alfond Stadium.
The Hoyas improve to 8-5 for the season, while Rollins drops to
13-6. After today's contest, all teams participating in the
63rd Annual Rollins College Baseball Week tournament
stand at an even 2-2 mark.
Rollins put up nine hits throughout the evening, but struggled
in plating batters leaving nine on base. The Hoyas took advantage
of three Rollins miscues that led to three runs driven in.
John Avanzino and Ryan Harvey were the only Tars to cross the
plate with Nick Adams driving in both runs. Avanzino scored in the
top of the third on a sacrifice fly, while Harvey scored on a
two-out single up the middle.
Georgetown scored multiple runs in three innings with three runs
in the opening frame, five in the third, and four in the sixth.
The Hoyas homered twice on the night with Dan Capeless hitting a
two-run bomb in the first and Rand Ravnaas hitting a three-run
homer in the sixth.
Right-handed pitcher Garrett Yount picked up his first loss of
the season, snapping a flawless start to the 2011 season and is now
4-1. Georgetown starter Alex Baker earned his second win of the
season with five innings of work.
Rollins will take to the field tomorrow afternoon as the Tars
host the Penn Quakers. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. For live
