WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 26, 2011) - The
Rollins men's lacrosse team welcomes its family, friends and fans
this weekend for two home matchups to be held at Barker Family
Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field. For those unable to make the
trip to Winter Park to watch the Tars take on York College and
Limestone, live media coverage will be available through the Tars
Sports Network and Simple Thought Productions.
Rollins will offer live AUDIO
and VIDEO (found at the bottom of the page) of the game against
York on Saturday, as well as video for the Limestone game on
Sunday. All audio and video will be free of charge. As always,
fans can also catch all of the action through LIVE
STATS.
The Tars enter into this weekend's events after a heartbreaking
21-13 loss to No. 12 Saint Leo on Saturday, February 19. Rollins
saw hat tricks from Peter
Harvey and Austin
Ricci, as well as a five point performance from Eric
Schmit, who tallied two goals and three assists to lead the
Tars in scoring.
Ricci along with Schmit and James
Libutti have a team best six points apiece. Ricci leads the way
with six goals while Schmit and Libutti have a pair of goals to go
with four assists. Additionally, Schmit serves as the Tars'
face-off specialist and has won 16-of-30 (.533) this season. In
goal, freshman Paul
Valukas and senior Doug
O'Brien have split the first two starts.
The weekend's events mark the first time the Tars will face off
against both York and Limestone. York makes the long drive from
Pennsylvania down to Winter Park with one game under its belt, a
12-11 victory over Virginia Weslyan on February 19. Josh Gamble
scored the game-winning goal with seven seconds left in regulation
to lift the Spartans to a season-opening win.
The Tars wrap up the weekend against No. 4 Limestone on Sunday.
The Saints, who take on Florida Southern on Saturday, return to the
field for the first time since their 28-5 season opening victory at
Conference Carolinas and in-region foe Lees-McRae on Wednesday,
February 16.
Senior Jeff Santo and sophomore Riley Loewen each scored four
goals while junior attack Shayne Jackson had six assists and added
a goal. Junior Desi Gonzalez won 14-of 17 face-offs, earning the
season's first Conference Carolinas Player of the Week award.
In all, Limestone registered its 28 goals on 20 assists and out
shot Lees-McRae 54-17 for the game, including 28-5 over the second
and third quarters. During that time frame, the Saints outscored
the Bobcats 19-1.
After the conclusion of the Limestone game, the Tars take a week
to recuperate as they prepare for Deep South Conference rival
Wingate University. First faceoff against the Bulldogs is set for
2:00 p.m. at Showalter Field in Winter Park. For the latest news,
