Tars Baseball Extends Win Streak; Defeat Bentley 5-4

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 19, 2011) - The Rollins Tars baseball team defeated the Bentley Falcons, 5-4 Saturday at Alfond Stadium to extend their win streak to six. With the win, Rollins improves to 6-2 on the season, while Bentley drops to 0-2.

Will Krasne and Mike Howard combined for three hits in the win over Bentley. Krasne (2-1) tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball, striking out seven and giving up two runs. Krasne leads the team in strikeouts with 20 on the season. Howard, who picked up his first save of the season, tossed 3 1/3 innings on the hill.

Rollins scored their five runs in three consecutive frames beginning in the third with a lone run and a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth. Steve Betcherman scored Rollins' lone run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Nick Adams.

In the bottom of the fourth, Kevin Mager led off with a triple to center and then scored on an RBI double by John Avanzino, his seventh double of the season. The Manhasset, N.Y. native went 1-for-4 with a double, run, RBI, and stolen base. Two batters later, Avanzino scored to put Rollins up 3-2.

Lead-off batter Chris Holloway and Nick Adams scored Rollins' final two runs of the night's contest. Holloway, who scored on a wild pitch, finished 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run. Holloway leads the team in stolen bags with five. Adams, the final Tars run, scored on a Kevin Mager RBI single to left field.

Bentley did manage to come within one of the Tars in the seventh as the Falcons put up a two-run seventh. Falcons lead-off hitter Sean Keady scored Bentley's third run of the night while Logan Gillis scored on the next play on a wild pitch.

All but one Tars batter notched a hit in the evenings contest. Chris Holloway, Tony Brunetti, Kevin Mager, and Zach Persky each posted two hits against the Falcons.

Picking up the loss for Bentley was starting pitcher Dan Murphy as he threw four innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. Logan Gillis was Bentley's top performer as he went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and two walks.

The Tars will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Rollins takes on the Bentley Falcons at 2 p.m. for game three of the four game series. For live action of the Tars, check out RollinsSports.com.
