Holloway Propels Tars Past Falcons

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 20, 2011) - With the score even at three runs apiece, Chris Holloway drove in Sean Reilly for the winning run to defeat the Bentley Falcons 4-3 Sunday at Alfond Stadium.

Rollins improves to 7-2 for the season, winners of seven straight, while Bentley drops to 0-3 for the season.

Rollins found themselves trailing 3-1 as the Falcons scored lone runs in the second, fifth, and sixth frame. The Tars scored in the opening frame on a John Avanzino RBI single driving in Tony Brunetti. Brunetti scored two runs for the Tars.

Starting things off in the bottom of the sixth, Tony Brunetti was walked by Bentley closer Matt Sherman. Sherman struck out two straight batters before giving up a hit to Brian Lattanzi, which drove in Brunetti to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Falcons.

Bentley managed to keep Rollins scoreless in the seventh, but gave up the tying run in the eighth and the go-ahead run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs on the board.

In the bottom of the eighth, John Avanzino scored the tying run with two outs on a Lattanzi RBI double. Rollins closer Matt White, who got the winning nod, retired Bentley in the top of the ninth to give the Tars a chance in the bottom half of the inning.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth, right fielder Zach Persky struck out looking. Junior Sean Reilly, who pinch hit for Ryan Harvey, reached on a walk and then advanced to third on a single by Steve Betcherman. On the next play, Chris Holloway flew out to right driving in Sean Reilly for the winning run with two outs on the board.

Starting pitcher Taylor Smith received a no decision in his five innings of work and six strikeouts. Matt White (1-0) tossed three innings of two-hit baseball and gave up no runs.

Brian Lattanzi notched three hits with two RBIs and a double. John Avanzino and Steve Betcherman each posted two hits against the Falcons.

Bentley closer Matt Sherman received the loss as the right-handed pitcher threw 4 2/3 innings and fanned five Tars batters.
