LAURINBURG, N.C. (February 19, 2011) - The
Rollins women's lacrosse team clinched their second-straight
victory in as many days as they defeated the St. Andrews
Presbyterian College Knights 19-2 on Saturday afternoon in
Laurinburg, N.C.
Rollins advances its record to 2-0 on the young season, while
the Knights drop their season opener and fall to a record of
0-1.
Leading the way for the Tars was sophomore Erica
Pagliarulo, who scored five goals and tacked on two assists to
lead the game with seven points overall. Rounding out the goal
count for the Tars were Sarah
Ann Showell with three, Catt Kelley, Katy
Tyszko, Caroline
Lamere and Sophie
Townsend with two apiece, and Tricia
Grant, Marissa
Giannerini, Kelly
Thayer, and Ginevra
Czech with one each.
Dishing out assists behind Pagliarulo's game-best two were
Grant, Kelley, Lamere, Tyszko, and Anna
Townsend with one each on the afternoon. Between the pipes,
freshman Elyse
De Lisle collected three saves, while her adversary Meghan
Powell made 22 saves on the day.
St. Andrews saw scoring efforts from Megan Jolly and Allie
Faulhaber, with Kim Mcdaniel and Brett Vyverberg collecting an
assist each in their first time out this season.
The Tars dictated the pace of the game in all areas of the
field. Rollins dominated the shot count 50-9, and led the game in
ground balls 49-35 thanks to a game-high five ground balls from
both Tori
Snow and Katie
Palasz. Both teams split on draw controls, 26-26, with each
collecting 13 apiece in both halves. Rollins was 3-for-4 on free
position shots, and held their opponent to a stifling 0-for-6 from
the hash marks.
Rollins returns to action on Tuesday, February 22, when they
host No. 1 and reigning national champion Adelphi University. Game
time against the Panthers is slated for 4 p.m. Fans will be able
