AT A GLANCE - Rollins new high-flying brand of
basketball will once again be on display Monday as the Tars host
Webber International. Rollins is 2-0 on the young season having
replaced four key players from last season's Sunshine State
Conference championship team. In the season opener at Palm Beach
Atlantic, the defense shined as Rollins ran away with a 63-47 win
on the road. They put on a show Friday night against Warner,
downing the Royals 66-51. Chris Malcolm had a career night, scoring
personal records with 14 points and 12 rebounds, to go along with
four blocks. Jeremy Sharp added 13 points with Dave Diakite and Myk
Brown each netting 10. The Tars offense is putting up 64 points a
night, but the zone defense is holding opponents to just 32 percent
shooting and 49 points a game...Webber is 2-6 on the year and
currently on a six game slide after beating Montreat and Florida
College to begin the year. Of their last four, two have been
against Division II Florida Tech and Flagler, while facing off
against Division I South Carolina State and Georgia Southern.
Against GSU, WIU won the second half and got 13 points off the
bench from Johnson Mesidor.
THE STARS - Myk Brown leads four Tars averaging
in double-digits scoring. The senior leads the way with 14.5 a game
while Dave Diakite, Chris Malcolm and Jeremy Sharpe each score 11.5
a night. Malcolm is pulling down a team-best 8.5 rebounds a game
while Diakite gathers 5.5 boards a game...Gabriel Rutledge averages
13.2 points and 11.2 rebounds a game to lead WIU's attack. David
Swan is putting up 11.3 a night while David Marlar adds 11 points a
game.
THE COACHES - Tom Klusman, now in his 32nd year
at the helm of his alma mater, enters the season with a chance to
earn career victory 600. He ranks fifth among active Division II
coaches with 576 victories, which is 18th all-time....John Shoffner
(Webber International '00) is in his eighth season leading the
Warriors.
THE SERIES - Rollins and Webber International
last met December 12, 2009 in Winter Park with Rollins winning
72-69. Nick Wolf posted 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Tars
while Julian Wilkison and Myk Brown each netted 11. Tyrell Harper
tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Warriors...Rollins
leads the all-time series 13-0
UP NEXT - Rollins host Puerto Rico Rio Piedras
for a Noon matinee on Wednesday, Nov. 23. After the Thanksgiving
holiday, Sunshine State Conference play begins at Tampa on
Wednesday, Nov. 30.
