Rollins Opens Home Slate Against the Gallitos Thursday

AT A GLANCE - Rollins is coming off a big opening weekend where they faced off against No. 1 Clayton State and No. 16 Wisconsin-Parkside at the UT Spartan Challenge. The Tars took the defending National Champion Lakers to the wire, holding a five-point lead with less than three minutes to play. CSU, however, heated up from the outside and came all the way back, handing the Tars a 54-51 defeat. Paris Moore netted 11 points to lead Rollins while Kourtnie Berry added eight points and six rebounds. Rollins beat Clayton State 45-32 on the glass, racking up 22 offensive boards. The Tars bounced back in a huge way the following day, running away from the 16th-ranked Rangers 66-58. Tera McDaniel had the hot hand with 14 points while Moore netted 10. The Tars forced 15 UWP turnovers while committing just nine. ... UPR-Rio Piedras met Florida Tech in their season opener Wednesday night, falling to the Panthers 77-40. Lirielys Ramos led the Gallitos with 11 points while Jesica Baez and Shelia Reyes each pulled down five boards. Tech outrebounded its guests 63-31 on the night and held UPR to just 23 percent (12-of-52) shooting.

THE STARS - Moore leads Rollins in the season box score with 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game. Ashley Jones tops the the Tars on the glass, gathering 6.5 boads a night, while Sarah Taylor's five steals tops the team.

THE COACHES - Glenn Wilkes Jr. (Stetson '81) is in his 26th season leading the team and continues to build the Tars into one of the premier programs in Division II. His career record of 553-183 is the 39th best mark among active coaches in all divisions. Jorge Otero is the head coach of Rio Piedras.

THE SERIES - Rollins is 10-0 all-time against Rio Piedras. They last met in Nov. 2009, playing twice in less than a week. In the first match-up, the Tars used eight points and five rebounds from Brittainy Daiger to win 59-30. Rollins then posted a 65-46 win as part of the Thanksgiving Classic and were led by Daiger and Amber Heistan, each with 10 points.

UP NEXT - The Tars continue their four-game home stand on Monday, Nov. 21 against Webber International. The contest is set to start a men's-women's doubleheader, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
