AT A GLANCE - The 2-1 Rollins women's
basketball team tips off a busy Thanksgiving week Monday against
Webber International. After falling to top-ranked Clayton State in
their opener, the Tars have rolled off wins over Wisconsin-Parkside
(66-58) and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (69-38). Against the Gallitos,
Kourtnie Berry netted 10 to lead Rollins while Paris Moore added
seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Tars are shooting
35 percent from the field and just 28 percent (17-of-60) from long
range. Rollins is tough on the glass, out rebounding opponents by
an average of 43-36...The Warriors are 0-4 on the season, playing
two NAIA teams, Division I Florida Atlantic and Division II Florida
Tech. They fell to Tech 117-57 and most recently, dropped a 77-52
decision to FAU. Against the Owls, Sarah Dileonardo shot 4-of-5
from 3-point range and scored 16 points while Samatha Harvey added
10.
THE STARS - Rollins' balanced attack boasts
eight players averaging more than five points a game. Paris Moore
leads the way with 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds a night. Berry adds
8.3 a game while Tera McDaniel and Ashley Jones each add 7.7 points
a game. Jones leads the Tars on the boards with 6.7 rebounds a
night...Sarah Dileonardo leads WIU with 11.5 points and six
rebounds a game.
THE COACHES - Glenn Wilkes Jr. (Stetson '81) is
in his 26th season leading the team and continues to build the Tars
into one of the premier programs in Division II. His career record
of 554-183 is the 39th best mark among active coaches in all
divisions...Grady Morrell (Franklin University) is in his first
year leading the Warriors.
THE SERIES - The Tars are 9-0 all-time against
the Warriors; the last meeting was all the way back on December 13,
2006 with Rollins winning 70-47. Larissa McDonough and Jennifer
Musgrove each netted 13 points to lead the Tars. Ashley Butler
netted nine off the bench to pace Webber.
UP NEXT - Rollins hosts the annual Thanksgiving
Classic, Friday Nov. 25 and Saturday Nov. 26. The Tars meet Davis
& Elkins at 1 p.m. on day one, followed by Florida Tech and
Johnson C. Smith at 3 p.m. The second day features the Tars against
Johnson C. Smith to start and Tech against D&E in the finale at
3 p.m.
