Boca Raton, Fla. (September 4, 2010) - Sarah
Mendoza and Camille
Indest led the Tars volleyball program for their second
straight victory as the Tars defeated UC-Colorado Springs 3-0
(25-22, 25-19, 25-21) this Saturday afternoon at the de Hoernle
Center.
Mendoza tallied 16 kills and 13 digs for her second
double-double of the season, along with two blocks, which earned
her All-Tournament honors. Freshman Camille
Indest had a breakout game as she posted 11 kills and three
blocks, while setter Kiana
Parks recorded a double-double with 40 assists, a match-high,
and 10 digs.
The first set was in the bank for the Tars after Sarah
Mendoza tied the score at 11-all. A 5-2
Rollins run caused UCCS to take a time out, which re-energized the
Tars and put them up by eight. Rollins took the first set
25-22.
The latter part of the second set was a rollercoaster ride for
the Tars. Rollins led by as many as four on a Kiana
Parks kill (19-14) and then by two after UCCS's Alex Nutall
scored on a kill. Camille
Indest followed that with a kill and the Tars allowed the
Mountain Lions to only score once thereafter winning the set
25-19.
With two in the books, the Tars started off the third set 5-0.
Rollins held on strong and held their lead throughout the set to
take the final set 25-21.
"This was a great ending to a successful weekend. We stayed
consistent and executed properly," said head coach Sindee
Snow.
"It's been only three matches into the season, but the girls
have gotten a lot more comfortable with one another. We want to
continue with this momentum for Tuesday and take it into Savannah
for the Armstrong Atlantic tournament."
For the Tars, Kelly
Merideth finished with five kills, four digs, and four blocks.
For UC-Colorado Springs, Alex Nutall finished with 10 kills and 11
digs.
The Tars return home for their season home opener against Warner
University this Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Warden Arena. First serve is
set for 7 p.m.
