Winter Park, Fla. (September 17, 2010) - In a
five-set thriller in front of 220 fans, the Tars volleyball program
suffered a 3-2 heartbreak over Sunshine State Conference foe-Lynn
this Friday night at Warden Arena.
With three Tars in double-figure kills, the Rollins attack
(.184) was not much for the Lynn Fighting Knights, who hit a mere
.129. Dropping the first set 25-17, the Tars came back with
vengeance and took the second set 25-19.
Tied at 1-1, the Fighting Knights were determined to put the
Tars away. Rollins trailed by as much as 10 on more than one
occasion, but after a Sindee
Snow timeout, the Tars were back on track scoring five
consecutive points to trail the Fighting Knights 10-15 on a kill by
Camille
Indest. The Tars would come within two after their 5-0 run,
but a Lynn timeout would break the Tars momentum as Rollins fell
25-23 in the third set.
In one word, determination was the best way to describe the
fourth set as the Tars won 25-17. Never allowing Lynn to take a
lead, Rollins hit .205 for the set and held back the Fighting
Knights to a .024 hitting percentage.
The pressure was on for both teams entering the fifth set as the
game saw six ties and two lead changes. In the final tie of the
set at 9-all on a kill by Indest, who finished with a match-high
.350 hitting percentage on 10 kills with three blocks, the Tars
lost their momentum as the Fighting Knights scored four consecutive
points to lead 13-9 and forcing a Snow timeout.
Snow's timeout would be key for the Tars as Rollins came back to
tie the score at 13-all on back-to-back kills from Kelly
Merideth and Sarah
Mendoza. Rollins would be unfortunate in the final moments as
Lynn took the fifth set on back-to-back kills from Haley Pratt.
Tying her season-high of 20 kills was Sarah
Mendoza, who also tallied her fifth double-double, as she also
notched 12 digs, along with one block. Freshman Megan
Hodges notched 14 kills for the Tars with a season-high 26
digs. Also recording a season-high was libero Phoebe
Corder with 28 digs. Setter Kiana
Parks was an assist shy of tying her season-high as she tallied
39 assists.
Lynn finished with three Fighting Knights in double-figure kills
with Mallory Deneen tallying 20 kills, Haley Pratt with 12, and
Katie Bradley with 11.
The Tars return to Sunshine State Conference action as Rollins
hosts Florida Tech tomorrow (Sept. 18) at 4 p.m. Live stats and
