WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 27, 2010)- The Rollins
softball team reached another step in their quest for postseason
play with a Sunshine State Conference victory against Saint
Leo,6-1, Tuesday night.
With the victory Rollins improves to a staggering 42-4, 22-1, while
Saint Leo falls to 22-29,9-13.
The Tars jumped on the scoreboard early scoring all six runs in the
first four innings. The Tars used the long ball to take control of
the game with blasts from Lauren
Caldwell, Amber Pederson and Jessica Moreland.
Moreland led the offense going 2-for-4 with three RBI's and was
joined by Caldwell and Pederson with RBI apiece. Eight batters
collected hits for the Tars with five of the recording two or more
hits to ignite the offense.
Freshmen Kirsten
Frame kept her sensational season going with her 29th victory.
Frame went seven innings and allowed one run on five hits, while
striking out 17, which gives her 301 on the season.
The Tars broke it open in the third inning with two consecutive
singles from Christine Roser and Krista
Rodden. Moreland finished the frame off with a three-run
homerun to left field to increase the lead to 4-1 heading into the
last three innings.
Saint Leo countered with a run in the fourth with a Dianne Gonzalez
double that plated Ana Castillo. Rollins answered in the bottom of
the fourth inning with back-to-back jacks from Caldwell and
Pederson.
Rollins will conclude the series Wednesday, Apr.28 at 11 a.m. from
Lake Island Park.
