HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (May 14, 2010)-
The Rollins softball team struggled offensively in the opening
round of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament, falling 4-0
to Arkansas Monticello. The Tars now carry a 2-1 overall record
against the Cotton Blossoms and are 1-1 in NCAA Tournament
play.
The Tars struggled mightily swinging the bat, only mustering two
hits against Cotton Blossom pitcher, Kayla Jackson. Compounding the
poor hitting performance was the inability for Rollins to get
runners into scoring position.
Jackson helped her own cause by belting a two run homerun to left
field in the fourth inning to put the Cotton Blossoms up in the
game 2-0. Two runs would be all the cushion Jackson needed to claim
the victory against the Tars. With the win she improves to 28-5 and
puts her team into the winner's bracket to face host
Alabama-Huntsville.
Freshmen Kirsten
Frame tried to keep the Tars in the game, but the offense was
stymied. Frame went seven innings and only surrendered three earned
runs, while striking out eight. Her strikeout count on the season
now sits at 314 in her first season with the Tars.
Collecting the two hits for the Tars were Amber Pederson and Brittney
Pumpelly. Once on base, Jackson shut down the Tars to avert any
potential threat.
Rollins will continue its postseason with a 2:30 p.m. (ET) game
against conference foe Nova Southeastern. The Tars swept the Sharks
in their regular season matchup. Rollins currently leads the
all-time series between the two teams with a record of 13-8.
