LAKELAND, Fla. (April 17, 2010) -
Rollins swept doubles and evened its season series with Florida
Southern as the ninth-ranked Tars defeated the 14th-ranked Mocs 5-1
in the Third Place Match of the Sunshine State Conference
Tournament on Saturday.
Rollins (17-7) started the match with a shutout as Holly
Fleming and Stefania Tkach teamed to
down Nora Baertschi and Amanda Carns 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles
match. Roshni Luthra and Lisa Loft picked up
an 8-2 win over Andrea Arguello and Veronika Kovaikova at No. 2 to
put the Tars on top 2-0.
The top flight doubles match was star studded as 18th-ranked Margaret Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale completed the Tars sweep with an 8-5 upset win over
15th-ranked Senka Softic and Agnese Rozite.
Ragsdale kept Rollins rolling into singles, winning the No. 6 match
over Carns 6-1, 6-2. Rozite blanked 15th-ranked Fleming 6-0, 6-0 in
the No. 2 match to get the Mocs on the board before Loft sealed the
win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Baertschi at No. 5.
Rollins will be back in action at the NCAA Division II Tournament,
hosted at campus sites on May 6-8.
