TAMPA, Fla. (April 9, 2010) -

The Rollins softball team fell behind early, but rebounded to capture the first game of the series against the Tampa Spartans, Friday evening, 6-2. With the win Rollins improves to 30-4 overall and 9-1 in conference play and Tampa falls to 18-11 and 9-5 in conference.

Tampa struck first on the scoreboard with a leadoff double from Julie Wisniewski. After the double Wisniewski used two wild pitches from Kirsten Frame to come around and score the first run of the game. Frame would work around a bases loaded jam to get out of the inning with only one run scored.

The Tars tallied their first run in the second inning after Krista Rodden reached on a hit-by-pitch. Two Spartan errors would allow Rodden to score to even the game at one.

The Tars took the lead in the third inning as they tallied two runs and finished off the Spartans by scoring a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Frame picked up the victory and is now 21-2 overall. Although Frame walked seven batters she battled the Spartans and collected 10 strikeouts and only surrendered four hits.

Heather Van Landingham also dealt with a tight strike zone and walked six batters. With the loss Van Landingham falls to 10-7 on the season, as she went 3.2 innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs.

Meredith Foster went 2-for-4 and collected two RBIs to lead the offensive attack, while Kristina Holland and Lauren Caldwell each picked up an RBI.

The teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m., Saturday from the UT Softball Field.
