WINTER PARK, Fla. -

The Rollins baseball team used a three-run eighth inning to ensure a 6-2 victory over the American International Yellow Jackets in non-conference action, Sunday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.

The Tars (14-5) used their nine hits to scatter their six runs to pick up their eighth consecutive victory, while the Yellow Jackets (1-2) collected seven hits and committed one error.

First baseman Kevin Mager led the Tar hitters with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI. The Middletown, N.J., native increased his batting average to .301 on the season.

"We struggled early with our adjustments, but we came through the clutch when we had runners in scoring position," assistant coach Mike Reese said.

Right fielder Joey Manning provided the game-high in RBIs with two as his two-run RBI double down the left field line in the eighth was his lone hit in the game.

Center fielder Taylor Ferguson was 2-for-4 with an RBI to increase his batting average to .424, a team-high and now has 22 RBIs on the season. The Charlton, Mass., native broke the scoreless tie in the fourth with a solo shot to right center.

Left fielder Tony Brunetti continued his hitting streak as he was 1-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brunetti, a transfer from Winthrop, leads the team in RBIs with 25 and has amassed a .354 average.

Senior hurler Tim Griffin (4-1) offered another outstanding performance in an eight-inning effort to capture his fourth win of the season. The Jacksonville, Fla., native allowed six hits and two runs, but struck out 13 Yellow Jacket batters, raising his strike out figure to 32, tying teammate Stephen Hiscock for a team-high.

Reliever Brad Renner came in and shutdown the ninth with only one blemish, a base hit.

For AIC, catcher Anthony Arrichiello and Dan Mooney recorded solo home runs to pace the Yellow Jacket offense. Center fielder Greg Caruso was the team-high in hits with two.

Starter Matt Lee (0-1) was dealt the loss in his 7.2 innings of work. Lee gave up nine hits and six runs, five earned in the loss. Geogg McCowat stopped the bleeding in the eighth recording the final out.

The Tars return to action for their opening game of the 62nd Annual Rollins College Baseball Week, Monday, March 8 against Georgetown at 7 p.m.
