CARROLLTON, Ga. (March 5, 2010)-

The Rollins softball team opened up the West Georgia Invitational with a pair of victories against Columbus St. and West Georgia by scores of 2-1 and 14-0, Friday afternoon. With the wins, Rollins improves to 8-0 and remain the only unbeaten team in the Sunshine State Conference.

Game one for the Tars saw a pitcher's duel between Kirsten Frame for the Tars and Kristi Bullard for the Cougars of Columbus St. The freshmen Frame went the distance for Rollins, striking out seven and allowing six hits and one run.

For the Cougars Bullard struck out seven and allowed five hits, but allowed two earned runs and that was the difference in the game.
Krista Rodden and Christine Roser propelled the Tars as both drove in a run apiece and combined to go 4-for-5 in the game. Roser started the scoring for the Tars as she knocked in a solo homerun in the first inning.

After the Cougars tied it at one in the top half of the third inning, Rollins went back to work. After a Holland single, Roser reached on a walk to give the Tars runners on first and second. Rodden stepped up and hit an RBI single that would prove to be the difference in the game.

From then on each pitcher shutdown the bats and Rollins escaped with a 2-1 victory.

Game two for the Tars saw a completely different game as the bats came alive in a big way. Rollins used five homeruns to runaway to a 14-0 victory over the West Georgia Wolves, Friday afternoon.

Brittney Pumpelly, Jessica Moreland, Kristina Holland, Roser and Rodden all collected home runs for the Tars. With the offensive explosion the Tars scored in every inning except the third.

Holland, Moreland, Roser, Rodden and Meredith Foster all tallied multi-RBIs in the game with Kelly Jones and Pumpelly chipping in one RBI apiece.

In the circle, Frame shutdown the Wolves as she struck out six and allowed only one hit. With the victory, Frame improves to 6-0 on the season and lowers her ERA to an impressive 0.57.

The Tars return to the diamond tomorrow morning when they will play Augusta St. at 9 a.m. and North Alabama at 1 p.m.
