WINTER PARK, Fla. -
Senior hurler Marc Hewett tossed an
effective seven shutout innings as the Rollins baseball team
silenced the Saint Anselm Hawks, 8-0, Thursday evening in
non-conference action at Alfond Stadium.
The Framingham, Mass., native allowed five hits and surrendered one
walk to solidify his first victory of the season. He also
registered nine strike outs. Taylor Smith pitched the
final two innings to preserve the Tar's shutout.
"Mark (Hewett) did a tremendous job commanding the strike zone all
night and made quality pitches," pitching Jonathon Krot said. "I
was happy with Taylor's (Smith) performance after a little bit of a
rough start he settled in and threw his breaking ball for
strikes.
Offensively for Rollins (12-5), Taylor Ferguson continued
his hot batting streak with a 2-for-5 performance with two runs
scored and three RBIs. Ferguson leads the team with a .421 batting

up six runs, five earned. James Farrington pitched the remaining
two innings and surrendered two runs.

the second. Designated hitter Scott Chase hit an
RBI-groundout to score Kevin
Mager, who led off the inning with a single up the middle.
In the third, Rollins added two more runs with a Brunetti and Luker
RBI singles.
The Tars tacked on a run in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. In the
top of the sixth it appeared Saint Anselm would strike as Richie
Manzi hit a one-out single. Manzi stole second, which preceded a
James Garrigan fielder's choice. Robert Kelly doubled to place
runners on second and third. The Tars' Hewett fought back striking
out Daniele DeCoste to end the Hawks threat.
After placing four more insurance runs the Tars secured the victory
and finished with 14 hits in the contest. Both teams committed two
errors in the game.
