WINTER PARK, Fla. -
Junior designated hitter Max Pavy collect a
career-high three RBIs with a pair of base hits to guide the
Rollins Tars to a 13-2 victory over visiting Florida Tech, Friday
evening at Alfond Stadium in Sunshine State Conference action.
Pavy, a native of Ft. Myers, Fla., finished the game 2-for-5 with a
run scored, a double and knocked in the eventual game-winning run
in the fourth.
With the win, Rollins remains unbeaten in conference play with a
record of 4-0 and improves to 19-8 on the season. The Panthers
drop to 20-6 and are 5-5 in the SSC.
The Tars finished with six batters recording multi-base hits as
first baseman Kevin
Mager led the way with four. Mager finished with a double and
scored four times for Rollins.
Right fielder Joey
Manning tied Pavy for RBIs in the contest with three as he
roped a bases loaded clearing double down the left field line in
the sixth.
Senior center fielder Taylor Ferguson continued
his impressive season with his 14th two-hit game. Ferguson was
2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Ferguson is currently
hitting .403, which leads the team and has a conference leading 48
hits.
Left fielder Tony
Brunetti and second baseman Josh Band tallied a double
each, while Brunetti recorded his 36th RBI in the contest, a
team-best.
On the hill for Rollins, Stephen Hiscock (4-1)
pitched another gem shutting down Florida Tech. Hiscock hurled
eight innings and limited the Panthers to just six hits and two
runs. Both of Florida Tech's runs came in the first inning as
Hiscock honed in the remaining seven innings and silenced the
Panthers' bats. He ended the game with nine strike outs and
lowered his ERA to 3.15.
Reliever Robbie Pagano closed out the
ninth for the Tars with ease as he struck out one and did not
surrender a hit in the appearance.
Jonathan Cornelius (4-2) was chased away after completing five
innings and allowed nine hits and seven runs. Josh Ziemba pitched
the next inning, but gave up five runs and five hits before Ronnie
Oelerich, making his 2010 debut, tossed the final two innings and
allowed one run.
Rollins trailed in the game early after falling behind 2-0 in the
first. The Tars scored 13 answered runs with a run in the second
on a Pavy RBI single, before adding five more in the fourth.
Rollins continued its offensive onslaught with a run in the fifth
and five more in the sxith, before capping off the scoring with
another in the seventh.
The Tars and Panthers continue their three-game series with a
doubleheader, Saturday, March 20 at 1 p.m.
