WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 20, 2010) - Zach
Cole notched a season-high 19 saves as the Tars lost a
hard-fought contest to Saint Leo University 14-5 on Saturday
afternoon in non-conference action.
Rollins (0-2) led by a score of 2-1 at the end of the first
quarter and had a two-goal advantage with 9:19 to go before the
break, but were unable to tame the Lions (1-0) as they slowly
tacked on 12 straight unanswered goals throughout the remainder of
the contest. With a late-game tally from Matthew Lunnen with
1:44 remaining, Rollins closed the deficit to nine, but the damage
had already been done.
Sophomore Austin Ricci led the Tars
with two goals and an assist, while Chuck Magid, and Eric Schmit added one
goal apiece. Drew Berger notched the
first assist of his career to close out the scoring on the day.
Saint Leo saw a big day from attackman Joe Guerin, who racked-up
five goals and an assist for six points overall to kick off his
senior campaign. The Lions opened their 2010 slate on a high note,
seeing scoring efforts from seven different players while four
different individuals notched assists.
The Lions out-shot Rollins 45-22, but the Tars stayed close in
ground balls with SLU leading the count 36-33. The Tars won
10-of-21 faceoffs thanks to newcomer Eric
Schmit who went 7-for-9 with his counterpart Ty Trombley making
good on 10-of-13 attempts.
The Tars return to action in March when they host Wingate
University in their second Deep South Conference matchup of the
season. The game will be held at Barker Family Stadium and
Cahall-Sandspur Field on the campus of Rollins College, and is
slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Fans will be able to catch all of the
