WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 29, 2010) -
Kourtnie Berry's career-high 19 points led the 14th
ranked Rollins Women's Basketball team past the Anderson Trojans,
70-38, in game one of the Rollins Holiday Classic. The win keeps
the Tars unbeaten at 11-0 while AU falls to 6-3.
Berry finished 5-of-7 from the field with 4-of-6 shooting from
beyond the arc and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe, to go along with
three boards and one steal. Berry broke her previous high of 18
against Arkansas-Monticello during the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Anderson's 7-6 lead at the 15:03 mark would be the last the
Trojans would see as the Tars surged past Anderson on three
consecutive 3-pointers from Kourtnie Berry for a 20-5 run.
Rollin's bench showed up big scoring 19 points in the first
half, 11 of which came from Berry.
Leading 40-21 at the half, Anderson managed to score nine points
- all from beyond the arc - to come within 12, 42-30, at the 13:47
mark in the second on a shot from Alissa Diaz.
Defense was key for the Tars as they kept the Trojans scoreless
in the final 7:16 of play.
As a team, Rollins shot 53 percent (26-49) from the field with
41 percent (9-22) shooting from the 3-point line and 75 percent
(9-12) shooting from the charity stripe. Anderson finished with 30
percent (13-44) shooting from the field and 47 percent (7-15) from
the line.
Tera McDaniel chipped in with nine points and led the team in
assists with six, to go along with three boards and four steals.
Katie Gordon and Kristina Mingos each scored eight apiece, while
the two combined for six rebounds.
Alexa Neal led the Trojans with 10 points, four rebounds, three
assists and three steals.
The Tars hit the hardwood once again as they close out the
