WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 30, 2010) - Led by Kristina Mingos with 17 points, the Rollins women's basketball team defeated Carson-Newman 79-64 on day two of the 2010 Rollins Holiday Classic.

The Tars stay perfect on the season, and advance to a mark of 12-0, while the Eagles drop to an overall record of 5-7.

Four Tars tallied double-digit scoring efforts, with Mingos as the forerunner. Jasmine Bradley and Kourtnie Berry notched 14 points apiece, with Amber Heistan a step behind with 13 on the afternoon.

Shannon Depew took the reins for Carson-Newman, tallying a game-high 20 points as she shot 8-of-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Rollins got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing the Eagles 11-0 after the initial three and a half minutes. But the Tars finally found their place on the scoreboard with a layup from Tera McDaniel at the 16:03 mark.

The Tars continued to whittle away at their deficit over the ensuing two and a half minutes, holding Carson-Newman silent as Heistan drained two consecutive treys to pull to within three points of the Eagles.

Paris Moore made good on two free throws to set the score at 11-10 with 14:22 on the clock, and on the subsequent play created a CNU turnover as Bradley stole the ball from Rechelle Dye for a fast break down court.

Bradley's trip down court resulted in a layup, despite a foul from Dye on the play, pulling the Tars into the lead with a score of 12-11. Bradley grabbed the and one, setting the tone for the remainder of the game and giving the Tars a two point lead with 14:13 before the break.

The score teetered for the following three minutes, with the lead changing hands four times. The Eagles pulled ahead by three with a score of 18-15, but Berry drained a shot from long range on the next trip down court to knot the score at 18 apiece with 10:26 on the clock.

Rollins hit their stride on both offense and defense holding the Eagles scoreless as they racked up a 19 point lead thanks in large part to 12 points, including three treys, from Mingos to put the scoreboard at 37-18 with 3:58 to go in the half.

The Eagles snapped their dry spell with a jumper from Cassie Bates with 3:39 on the clock, but entered into the break with Rollins holding on to a substantial 14-point lead with a score of 42-28.

The Tars were able to hold onto the lead throughout the second half. Carson-Newman closed the gap to as little as eight points with 11:03 remaining, but Rollins kept the Eagles on the ground as they ballooned their lead to as much as 19 in the remaining ten minutes.

Rollins finished the game with 14 steals, led by Heistan who grabbed a game high four on the afternoon.

The Tars return to action on Sunday, January 2, when they travel to the University of Tampa to take on the Spartans in Sunshine State Conference action. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. Fans who cannot make it to the game can catch all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
