WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 30, 2010) - Led by
Kristina
Mingos with 17 points, the Rollins women's basketball team
defeated Carson-Newman 79-64 on day two of the 2010 Rollins Holiday
Classic.
The Tars stay perfect on the season, and advance to a mark of
12-0, while the Eagles drop to an overall record of 5-7.
Four Tars tallied double-digit scoring efforts, with Mingos as

Berry notched 14 points apiece, with Amber
Heistan a step behind with 13 on the afternoon.
Shannon Depew took the reins for Carson-Newman, tallying a
game-high 20 points as she shot 8-of-11 from the field and 3-for-4
from the charity stripe.
Rollins got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing
the Eagles 11-0 after the initial three and a half minutes. But
the Tars finally found their place on the scoreboard with a layup
from Tera
McDaniel at the 16:03 mark.
The Tars continued to whittle away at their deficit over the
ensuing two and a half minutes, holding Carson-Newman silent as
Heistan drained two consecutive treys to pull to within three
points of the Eagles.
Paris
Moore made good on two free throws to set the score at 11-10
with 14:22 on the clock, and on the subsequent play created a CNU
turnover as Bradley stole the ball from Rechelle Dye for a fast
break down court.
Bradley's trip down court resulted in a layup, despite a foul
from Dye on the play, pulling the Tars into the lead with a score
of 12-11. Bradley grabbed the and one, setting the tone for the
remainder of the game and giving the Tars a two point lead with
14:13 before the break.
The score teetered for the following three minutes, with the
lead changing hands four times. The Eagles pulled ahead by three
with a score of 18-15, but Berry drained a shot from long range on
the next trip down court to knot the score at 18 apiece with 10:26
on the clock.
Rollins hit their stride on both offense and defense holding the
Eagles scoreless as they racked up a 19 point lead thanks in large
part to 12 points, including three treys, from Mingos to put the
scoreboard at 37-18 with 3:58 to go in the half.
The Eagles snapped their dry spell with a jumper from Cassie
Bates with 3:39 on the clock, but entered into the break with
Rollins holding on to a substantial 14-point lead with a score of
42-28.
The Tars were able to hold onto the lead throughout the second
half. Carson-Newman closed the gap to as little as eight points
with 11:03 remaining, but Rollins kept the Eagles on the ground as
they ballooned their lead to as much as 19 in the remaining ten
minutes.
Rollins finished the game with 14 steals, led by Heistan who
grabbed a game high four on the afternoon.
The Tars return to action on Sunday, January 2, when they travel
to the University of Tampa to take on the Spartans in Sunshine
State Conference action. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. Fans who
