MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (Nov. 5, 2010) - The trio of
Megan
Hodges, Sarah
Mendoza, and Camille
Indest lifted the Rollins Tars to a 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 25-21,
19-25, 16-14) victory over the Barry Buccaneers this Friday
afternoon.
Barry, who is ranked second in the Sunshine State Conference,
outhit Rollins .270-.232 and tallied more kills, assists, and digs,
but still came up short in the end. Barry now drops to 14-5 for
the season and 9-4 in conference play, while Rollins improves to
18-8 overall and 7-6 in SSC action.
Hodges notched a season-high 23 kills for a .274 attack
percentage, to go along with 11 digs and two assists. Mendoza, who
recorded her 16th double-double of the season, tallied
20 kills, 17 digs, two blocks, and a season-high four assists. Camille
Indest chipped in with her 11 kills and nine digs.
Tied at one match apiece (18-25, 25-23), the Tars jumped out to
a quick 6-2 lead over the Barry Bucs in game three to force a
timeout by Barry head coach Frederico Santos. Rollins continued
right from where they left off and went on a 10-4 run to lead 18-11
before three costly errors narrowed their lead by three. Rollins
managed to keep control of the game and win 25-21.
The Tars entered game four to only drop a 25-19 decision forcing
a game five. A very much crucial game five, after moving up to the
sixth spot in the NCAA South Region Poll, Rollins fought tooth and
nail as the set saw 12 ties and four lead changes.
After Barry's Julia Teixeira tied the score at 14-all, Rollins
managed to hold the Bucs back as Hodges gave the Tars the lead on a
kill and a block assist by Jill
Lau and Camille
Indest secured the win for Rollins.
As a team, Rollins tallied 65 kills, which 49 were credited to
Kiana
Parks. Three Tars tallied double-figure digs with Phoebe
Corder posting a match-high 22, Mendoza 17 digs, and Hodges 11.
Rollins continues their South Florida trip as they head to Nova
Southeastern tomorrow for a 4 p.m. match-up. For more information
