WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 12, 2010) - The Rollins volleyball team snapped a five-year dry spell as the Tars captured their 20th win of the season with a sweep (25-22, 25-22, 29-27) over the Eckerd Tritons this Friday afternoon at Warden Arena.

Rollins (20-9, 9-8) won games one and two by scores of 25-22 and went the extra mile in game three with a score of 29-27. The last time Rollins notched 20 wins was during Snow's 2005 campaign where she also earned a berth to the NCAA South Region Tournament.

Stepping up big for the Tars was right-side hitter Kelly Merideth. Merideth posted a season-high 15 kills on 25 swings for a .520 attack percentage. Megan Hodges added 15 kills, as well, along with four digs and one block.

The Tars made quick work of the Tritons (9-17, 2-13) in the opening two frames, but were a bit rusty coming out of intermission. The third game saw 17 ties and five lead changes with Sarah Mendoza, Hodges, and Merideth being an integral part of the Tars win. Hodges collected seven of her kills in just the third game.

After the eighth tie of the game at 10-all, the Tars jumped out to a 16-13 lead over Eckerd forcing the Tritons to take a timeout. The timeout did the Tritons well as they went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-16 lead over Rollins. The Tars managed to come within one at the 20-19 mark on a block solo by Sarah Mendoza. Mendoza notched three of her four block solos in the third game and finished with 13 kills and 16 digs for her 19th double-double.

The set remained intense as the score bounced back and forth, but fell in the Tars favor after an attack error by Lindsay Biggs to put Rollins up by one. On the next serve, the Tritons were unable to return a Megan Hodges serve for an ace and secured the win for the Tars.

As a team, Rollins hit .287 and recorded 55 kills, 49 of which were credited to Kiana Parks. Two-time and defending SSC Defensive Player of the Week Phoebe Corder tallied 14 digs, to go along with one kill, two assists, and one ace.

Rollins returns to Warden Arena for their final regular-season match of the season as they play host to Palm Beach Atlantic on Senior Night. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. For live action of the Tars, check out the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
