Winter Park, Fla. (October 1, 2010) -
Double-figure kills from Sarah
Mendoza and Megan
Hodges lifted the Rollins Tars (10-4, 3-2) to a 3-0 victory
over the Nova Southeastern Sharks this Friday afternoon at Warden
Arena.
Mendoza, who notched her seventh double-double of the year,
finished with a match-high 15 kills and 20 digs, along with three
assists and one ace. Hodges chipped in with 11 kills and seven
digs.
For the first time this season, the Tars hit above a .300 and
finished with a .313 hitting percentage and committed a season-low
nine errors.
Rollins, who hit a .357 in the first game, committed a single
error and held the Nova Sharks (5-8, 2-3) back to single-digit
scoring up until the 23-9 mark when the Tars committed a service
error. Rollins took the first game 25-15.
A much intense second set, which lasted 22 minutes, saw 10 ties
and six lead changes. Despite Rollins taking the second game
25-16, the Tars struggled to stay consistent, but were able to take
control of the game after a kill by Jill
Lau tied the game at 14-all. A kill by Mendoza would open the
gates for the Tars and would secure the win.
A slow start in the third game would hold no fear for Rollins as
they were quick to turn the tables on the Sharks and slide right on
past Nova for a 25-18 win. The Tars hit .387 for the third and
final game and held Nova below a .100 hitting percentage.
Kiana
Parks led the Tars with a .800 hitting percentage with four
kills, 32 assists, two service aces, and three block assists. Jenny
Sherwood posted a .467 hitting percentage on eight kills, along
with five digs and three block assists.
Nova's Paola Ruiz led the Sharks with10 kills. Setter Jordan
Pappas finished with a double-double of 23 assists and 10 digs.
The Tars return to Warden Arena this Saturday, Oct. 2 as they
play host to No. 25 Barry. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. Live
