BOCA RATON, Fla. (May 8, 2009) – Rollins
fell into a 0-3 hole to Valdosta State after doubles and couldn't
recover in singles play as the 13th ranked Tars were downed by the
fourth ranked Blazers 5-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division
II South Region Tournament.
The loss ends Rollins' 2009 campaign with a record of 18-9.
The top flight doubles match was the day's marquee battle
between the Tars 13th ranked duo of Adrian
Tan and Jeff
Morris against the top ranked tandem in the nation from VSU,
Joerg Ekkenga and Leos Jelinek. The Tars gave them all they had,
but in the end, the Blazers scored the point, winning 9-7. Neil
Clausen and Gustavo
Carvalho fell to Daniel Dueren and Michael Kuech 8-3 in the No.
2 match while Bill
Rockwood and Nick
Rowlands dropped an 8-4 decision to Florian Halb and Otto
Lenhart at No. 3.
Valdosta then sealed the Tars fate with two quick victories in
singles play. Jelinek defeated Carvalho 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and
Lenhart downed Rockwood 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 match.
