Tars Claim Five Spots on All-SSC Teams

ORLADNO, Fla. (May 7, 2009)- Twenty-six student-athletes have been named to the 2009 All-Sunshine State Conference Softball Team, announced Thursday by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. Florida Southern's Sara Lovestrand was selected Player of the Year, while Moccasin skipper Chris Bellotto was tabbed Coach of the Year. Rollins' Nicole Anderson was chosen Pitcher of the Year, and Saint Leo's Amber Martyn earned Freshman of the Year honors.

Voting for the all-conference team was conducted among the league's softball coaches and sports information directors.

Joining Lovestrand and Anderson on the All-SSC First Team were: 1B Elli Howell (Florida Southern), 2B Meghan Osborne (Lynn), 3B Tatiana Casis (Saint Leo), OF Natalie Lang (Florida Southern), OF Monica Meadows (Rollins), OF Rachel Talenfeld (Nova Southeastern), C Christine Roser (Rollins), P Deanna Henriott (Tampa), DP Angela Williams (Florida Southern), UT Brianna Barth (Florida Tech), and at-large selection Amber Jack (Barry).

Joining Martyn as members of the All-SSC Second Team were: 1B April Donachie (Nova Southeastern), 2B Dana Bergner (Nova Southeastern), 3B Rachel Almengual (Rollins), SS Lauren Lopez (Nova Southeastern), OF Lindsey Powell (Florida Southern), OF Shyla Rider (Barry), C Brittany Anderson (Barry), P Christine Clark (Florida Southern), P Rachael Foster (Rollins), DP Jessica Tabor (Barry), and at-large selection Kallan Casey (Tampa).
Barry 1B Amanda Goelz received honorable mention.

This marked the second consecutive season that the Tars have placed five players on the All-Conference teams.

Anderson put an exclamation point on her senior regular season campaign as she collected Pitcher of the Year recognition. This marks the first time a time has garnered the award in the history of the program. Anderson went 26-5 with a 0.73 ERA. She also has collected first team honors three times and an honorable mention in her career.

In her senior campaign Anderson tossed 16 shutouts and 29 complete games. The year also saw her collect her 1,000th strikeout against Kentucky St. Anderson currently sits 22 strikeouts behind the all time conference mark of 1,209.

Roser collects her second first team nomination after being selected SSC Freshmen of the Year last year. Roser batted .420 with 62 RBIs and 15 homeruns to lead the Tars to a 46-8 record overall and an 18-6 conference record.

Monica Meadows garnered a first team selection in only her second season with the Tars. Meadows posted a .360 batting average with 41 RBIs and 11 homeruns from the leadoff spot. Meadows also led the team in doubles with 12 on the season.

Rachael Foster and Rachel Almengual collected second team honors for the first time in their career at Rollins.
Foster was sure and steady in the circle, as she went 17-3 with 0.93 ERA. She provided the Tars with the second part of the 1-2 pitching punch.

After missing last year due to injury Rachel Almengual had a stellar senior season to earn her first All-SSC selection. Almengual played the hot corner for the Tars, while boasting a .969 fielding percentage.
