HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (May 8, 2009)-

The Rollins softball team spilt games with West Florida and the University of Alabama-Huntsville Friday evening by score of 3-2 and 8-5.

The Tars started off their NCAA Tournament run with a solid win against West Florida in their opening game. Nicole Anderson collected her 27th victory of the season to go along with 13 strikeouts. Anderson currently needs 10 strikeouts to capture the SSC conference record of 1,209.

Christine Roser and Monica Meadows led the Tars offense as each collected one RBI apiece. Meadows drove in the game winning run in the bottom half of the seventh inning to give Rollins a 3-2 victory.

With the win Rollins improves to 47-8 on the season and moves one step closer to capturing a regional crown.

With the opening game in hand the Tars moved onto the No. 5 team in the country and No. 1 seed in the tournament, Alabama-Huntsville.

After surrendering a first inning home run, the Tars responded by posting five runs in the second inning. Offensively Monica Meadows and Rachael Foster each collected two RBIs and Kristina Holland chipped in one RBI.

Rachael Foster held that lead until the Chargers scored four in the bottom half of the fifth inning. After the two teams went scoreless for two innings, the Chargers broke the tie in the bottom half of the seventh as they scored three runs on a home run by Emily Roach.

With the loss Rachael Foster falls to 17-4 on the season and the Tars fall to 47-9 overall. Rollins also is one game away from elimination. The Tars will play the winner of the West Florida/Miles College game tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. central time.
