Spartanburg, S.C. (April 26, 2009) - Freshman midfielder Bizzie Durell led a total of eight Tars in scoring on the way to a 25-3 romp over the Valkyries of Converse College on Sunday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C. The win closes out the Rollins women's lacrosse team's regular season with an overall mark of 12-3, while Converse drops to 3-13 in their inaugural season.

Durell led both teams with eight points as she netted seven goals and notched an assist for a career high to close out the regular season. Behind Durell, sophomore standout Katie Tyszko scored five goals and assisted on two more for seven points overall, while junior midfielder Marissa Giannerini fired five goals between the pipes and found an assist on one more for six points on the day.

Freshman fireball Tori Snow scored three goals while assisting on two, and sophomore Lacy Goodwyn netted three and helped the offense with an assist of her own while fellow sophomore Liz Connelly tabbed three points with one goal and two assists. Rounding-out the day on the scoreboard were freshman duo Mallory Surpless and Cat Kelley with one goal apiece to help the Tars to their record-setting win as it marks the highest scoring game in Rollins' short program history.

The Valkyries saw scoring efforts from Betsy Ruppert, Lisa Ryan, and Ashley Day as they each found the back of the net once. Converse goalie Ashley Mercuri had a solid day in cage as she made 12 saves as the Tars fired-off 42 shots throughout the contest.

Rollins sprinted out to a seven goal lead in the first nine minutes of play before Converse was able to put a goal on the scoreboard. The Tars continued to dictate the pace of the game as they went on to outscore the Valkyries 8-0 in the remaining 20 minutes of first half play.

With a score of 15-1 entering into the second half, Rollins kept up the intensity as they out-scored Converse 10-2 throughout the final 30 minutes. The Tars silenced the Valkyries in all areas of the field as they dominated in the shot count 42-to-3, led in ground balls 23-to-10, won 15-of-27 draw controls, found success on 93 percent of their clears, and caused 11 turnovers.

Freshman defender had a fantastic day as she led the game with four ground balls, and was one of four Tars with two caused turnovers on the day.

After closing out their inaugural season in 2008 with a record of 3-9, the Tars' regular season sophomore campaign comes to a close after an impressive turnaround as the Tars swapped places with an overall mark of 12-3.

Currently ranked within the top five in South Region action with a mark of 8-1 against regional opponents, the Tars now wait to see if they will get the go-ahead nod to play in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse tournament, with the first round to be held on May 9 at a location to be determined.
