BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 18, 2009) – The
Rollins men's tennis team avenged a regular season loss and earned
a third place finish in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament
with a 5-0 win over Florida Southern Saturday.
The 15th ranked Tars improve to 17-8 overall while the 14th
ranked Mocs call to 14-9.
The Tars 13th-ranked doubles team of Jeff
Morris and Adrian Tan lived up to their ranking with an 8-2
win over Roman Schirmaier and Guenther Fercher at No. 1. Neil
Clausen and Gustavo Carvalho downed CJ Johnson and Brian
deMontfort 8-2 at No. 2 with Nick
Rowlands and Bill Rockwood picking up an 8-4 decision over Ben
Taylor and Greg Heartt at No. 3.
Clausen, the 35th ranked singles player in the nation, scored a
6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 while Morris took Nicolas Bigler 6-1, 6-0 at
No. 3 earn the Tars victory.
Both teams will now await selection into the NCAA Division II
Tournament.
