BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Rollins tennis team
used a clean doubles sweep en route to a 5-0 shutout victory over
West Alabama, Thursday at the NCAA South Region Tournament.
Nick Rowlands and Bill Rockwood blanked Carlin Tighe and Alvaro de
la Torre, 8-0 in the third spot while Gustavo Carvalho and Neil
Clausen won 8-2 in the second position to give Rollins a 2-0 lead.
Jeff Morris and Adrian Tan completed the sweep with an 8-4 win
against West Alabama's tandem, James Gardner and Danish Ahmad in
the top flight.
In singles action, the Tars lost just one game in the deciding two
matches. Tan finished first with a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 decision
at No. 1 singles before Morris closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-0
win in the third slot to secure the victory. The remaining matches
were left unfinished as Rollins already was ensured of the win.
Rollins continues action in the semifinal of the NCAA South Region
when it plays Valdosta State, Friday, May 8 at 3:30 p.m.
