WINTER PARK, Fla.(April 9, 2009)- Nicole
Anderson
recorded her fifth no-hitter of the season and Jamie
Rausch provided the offense as Rollins captured a 3-0 win over
No. 23 Tampa in Sunshine State Conference action Thursday
evening.
Anderson on the night struck out 12, walked one and hit one batter
on her way to her 18th victory of the season. Her no-no was also
the 21st of her career.
Rollins now owns a 35-6 overall record and an 8-5 conference mark
while the Spartans drop to 25-7, 11-3 SSC.
Offensively, Rausch provided the spark as she went 2-for-3 with two
RBIs and tied the Tars career homerun record with a solo shot in
the sixth. Monica
Meadows had the Tars only other hit in the contest with a solo
home run to left to lead off the sixth.
The first three and half innings saw both the Spartans and Tars go
scoreless.
Rollins cracked the scoreboard in the fourth as Christine
Roser drew a walk to give the Tars a base runner. That would be
all Jamie
Rausch needed as she drove a double to right center field to
score Roser from first base.
The Tars were not done with the scoring as they posted two more
insurance runs as Monica
Meadows and Jamie
Rausch each homered to give the Tars a 3-0 lead.
Tampa was not able to muster any offense as Nicole
Anderson and the Tars defense was up to the task all night
long.
Rollins returns to action when the series resumes tomorrow, Friday,
April 10 at 5 p.m. from Lake Island Park.
