WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2009)-
Rollins collected a pair of wins against Albany St. in
doubleheader action as the Tars took 10-1 and 2-1, Monday morning.
With the wins the Tars move to 19-2 on the season, while Albany St.
falls to 7-12.
Game one saw the Tars jump on the scoreboard quickly as they scored
one run in the first and then countered with five runs in the
second. Monica
Meadows and Amber
Pederson all picked up RBI's in the inning along with three
RBI's from Missy
Thogmartin. Pederson, Meadows and Thogmartin combined to go
4-for-6 in the game to help put the Tars up for the rest of the
way.
In the third inning Christine
Roser added to the lead, belting a three run homerun to left
field to put Rollins up 9-1 in the bottom half of the third.
The Tars capped their scoring off when Amber
Pederson drew a free pass to first base, as she was hit by the
pitch from Melissa Hurst. Rachel
Almengual also was hit by a pitch, which moved Pederson over to
second. Vanessa
Volkema pinch hit for Monica
Meadows and doubled through the right side scoring Pederson to
put Rollins up 10-1.
Nicole
Anderson continues her stellar season with another win to
improve to 10-1, as she allowed two hits and one run in five
innings of work. Anderson entered the game only needing 13
strikeouts to reach the 1,000 strikeout mark for her career. She
came up one strikeout short and now sits at 999.
Game two of the doubleheader saw a closely contested game, which
the Tars escaped with a 2-1 victory. Leading the way for the Tars
was Jamie
Rausch and
Amber
Pederson as they both went 2-for-3, while Pederson scored the
winning run for the Tars.
The offense for Rollins was stymied by Ashia Meredith as she held
the Tars to two runs, their second lowest run total of the
year.
Rollins struck first on the scoreboard first as Rachel
Almengual came around on a Kristina
Holland single through the right side. The Tars did not score
again until the bottom of the sixth inning.
The fourth inning saw Albany St. tie the game up as Kandis Tate
swung on the first pitch from Foster, which Tate took to left
field.
In the sixth inning Amber
Pederson reached on a single to give the Tars a base runner. Rachael
Foster was due up next and also collected an infield single to
move Pederson over to second. Pederson then stole third and would
come around to score on a wild pitch. Foster moved over from second
on the wild pitch and tried to come home, but the throw was in time
and Foster was called out at the plate.
The top half of the seventh saw the Lady Rams go down in order as
Foster picked up her eight win in nine starts this season.
Due up next for the Tars is a doubleheader with Kentucky St.
starting at 11 a.m. from Lake Island Park.
