Tars Capture Two Victories on Anderson's Historic Day

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2009) - Rollins swept Kentucky St. in doubleheader action as the Tars claimed the decisions by scores of 13-0 and 10-2, Tuesday afternoon. With the wins the Tars move to 21-2 on the season, while Kentucky St. falls to 4-8.

The top half of the inning saw senior pitcher Nicole Anderson collect her 1,000th strikeout of her illustrious four year career at Rollins. Anderson only pitched two innings, allowing one hit and collected four strikeouts to now sit at 1,003 strikeouts for her career. Rachael Foster came in and pitched three innings of scoreless ball, as she allowed on one hit to earn her ninth win of the season.

The Tars quickly got on the scoreboard as they posted four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Leading the charge in the inning were Kristina Holland with a single, Jamie Rausch with a double and Amber Pederson with a homerun. Rausch and Pederson both picked up 2 RBI's to put the Tars out front after the first inning.

The second inning saw the Tars tack on three more runs as Rachel Almengual drew a walk to get aboard. Kristina Holland after singling her first time up took the offering deep to left field for a double, which scored Almengual for a 5-0 lead. The inning also saw a double from Christine Roser, which scored Holland and allowed Roser to move to third on the throw. The next pitch got away from catcher Kayla Lewis allowing Roser to score on the pass ball.

After the Tars held Kentucky St. to one hit through three innings, Rollins finished the scoring, as they posted six runs on the board to lead 13-0. The inning saw Amber Pederson collect two hits in the inning, one being a leadoff double and the other an RBI single. Kaycie Bevis also doubled to drive in Pederson to collect her sixth RBI of the season. After moving to third on an illegal pitch Bevis scored on a single to third by Morgan Frost. Rachel Almengual reached on a fielder's choice as Frost was out at second. Monica Meadows doubled to score Almengual for her 24th RBI of the season. Kristina Holland reached on a bunt single moving Meadows to third, who would score on the throw and Holland moved to second on the throw. Jamie Rausch and Amber Pederson both hit RBI singles to drive in the final two runs of the inning as Kaycie Bevis ended the inning with a strikeout.

The game was called in the top half of the fifth as Kentucky St. was not able to push across any runs to stay alive.

Game two saw Kentucky St. take advantage of their opportunities as they pushed across two runs in the top half of the first inning. The inning was started off by Colby Smith as she reached on a single to second base. The speedy Colby moved over to second on a sac bunt from Ladonna Turley. Lamara Parker reached first base on the first walk of the game from Monica Meadows. Shenazz Burrell stepped up and knocked an RBI single to right field, which moved Parker to third and was enough to score Colby. Sukoji Knight also collected an RBI single that brought around Parker for a 2-0 lead.

The bottom half of the inning saw the Tars strike back with two runs of their own. Meadows and Holland both reached on singles to put runners on first and second. Missy Thogmartin was due up next as she collected a triple that scored Meadows and Holland. Two runs were all the Tars could push across as they left one runner stranded in the inning.

In the second inning the Tars posted two more runs in the inning to go up 4-0. Senior pitcher Rachael Foster started the scoring, as she homered to left field off of Ariel Zugg. Morgan Frost kept the inning going as she singled through the right side. After Almengual's sacrifice bunt the Tars had a runner in scoring position. This set the table for Monica Meadows as she drove in Frost with a single through the right side. The inning ended as Kristina Holland lined out to second and the throw was in time to get Meadows for the double play.

The game went scoreless for two and half innings before the Tars struck again on the scoreboard. The bottom half of the fifth saw Kristina Holland reach on a walk. Christine Roser singled moving Holland to second, but Holland took third on the throw, which allowed Roser to move to second on the throw. With two runners in scoring position Missy Thogmartin delivered a double to right field as she collected two RBI's on the play. Jamie Rausch was the next batter up and took the Ariel Zugg offering over the fence in center field, scoring two more runs for the Tars. Kentucky St. made a pitching change as Brittnie Ragle faced Amber Pederson. Pederson locked onto a pitch she liked and drove it over the left field fence for back-to-back homeruns for Rollins. After Foster and Frost were retired, Rachel Almengual drew a walk and this would bring up Monica Meadows. The game ended as Monica Meadows hit a double to right field scoring Almengual from first. The final score was 10-2 after five innings of play. The Rollins offense had a big day as they collected 13 hits and 10 runs, while only allowing four hits and two runs to Kentucky St.

With the win Monica Meadows now moves to 2-0 on the season and improves her batting average to .385 with 24 RBI's on the season.

The Tars return to the diamond on Wednesday to face Kentucky St. in doubleheader action starting at 11 a.m. from Lake Island Park.
