DECATUR, Ga. (March 7, 2009)-
The Rollins softball team completed a sweep of Bethel College
and Claflin University, 6-0 and 14-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the two wins today the Tars move to 19-2 on the season and
look to improve their No.7 ranking in the NCFA poll this week.
Leading the way for the Tars was the veteran pitching staff of Nicole
Anderson and Rachael
Foster as they combined for 27 strikeouts in 12 innings of
work. The duo also only gave up two hits and went 2-for-6 from the
plate. Anderson appeared in her third at bat of her four year
career at Rollins and reached on a single, while driving in a run.
Anderson, the career leader in strikeouts at Rollins only needs 13
more strikeouts to reach 1,000 for her career.
Offensively Rollins could not be stopped as they posted 20 runs in
two games, while giving up none. Monica
Meadows set the table for Rollins as she went 4-for-8 and
collected two RBI's from her leadoff spot. Sophomore catcher Christine
Roser went 5-for-6 with 5 RBI's to compliment the hot bat of
Meadows. Jamie
Rausch, in search of the career home run record also had a
strong weekend.
Throughout the season the Tars have taken advantage of their
opponents pitching as the Tars strike early and often on the
scoreboard. Statistically the Tars have big first and third
innings, which allows them to build leads and not surrender
them.
The Tars will return home and play Albany St. and Kentucky St. in
doubleheader action before stepping back into conference play, when
they will face Florida Southern.
