WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21, 2009)
Rollins trailed by three entering into the second quarter, but were
unable to make a comeback in the final three periods, falling 17-6
to Northeast 10 opponent Saint Michael's College on Saturday
afternoon at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall Sandspur Field. The
Tars (2-4) head into a string of road trips in the upcoming weeks,
while Saint Michael's (2-2) returns to Colchester, Vt. to open up
their home season.
Sophomore goalie Zach
Cole made 17 saves in the first three periods, including 10 in
the second quarter, with fellow sophomore Doug
O'Brien stepping into the cage for the fourth period to pull in
2 saves of his own and give the Tars a total of 19 saves on the
afternoon.
Leading Rollins in scoring was freshman Cooper
Gilman with two goals and an assist. BJ
Neller, Jay
McDermott, Hudson
Atkins Jr., and Matthew
Lunnen netted one apiece. Freshman Dan
Huettenmoser notched an assist to round out the points for
Rollins, but it wasn't enough to keep the Tars in contention
against Saint Michael's.
Led by junior attacker Charlie Niznansky with five goals and an
assist, the Purple Knights out-scored the Tars in the first half
10-3, and continued their scoring success into the second as they
fired seven more shots in goal and held Rollins to three in the
final 30 minutes.
The Tars were silenced in all areas of the field as they were
out-shot 48-14, trailed in ground balls 52-33, and found success on
only 7-of-25 faceoffs. The Tars did make use of a man-up
opportunity to score a goal in the second quarter, while holding
Saint Michael's silent in power play situations as they were
0-for-3 on the day.
The Tars return to action on the road where they will take on
Lee's McRae at host site Mars Hill College in a 7:00 p.m. matchup
in Mars Hill, N.C. For the latest news, statistics, and updates on
