the Tars' effort.
On the mound, starter Matt White (2-1) was dealt the loss as he

In the first, the Hoyas dropped four runs as center fielder Tommy
Lee led off the inning with a single to center. He advanced to
second on a ground out and then stole third. Back-to-back walks
loaded the bases for Georgetown, as a Sean Baumann sacrifice fly
scored Lee from third to record the first run of the game. First
baseman Dan Capeless followed with an RBI single up the middle
before catcher Greg Pustizzi reached on an error.
Shortstop Tom Elliott culminated the inning on the ensuing at bat
with a double to right field to drive in two runs for the
Hoyas.
Rollins counted in the bottom portion of the frame when Bennett
singled up the middle scoring Ferguson from second, who reached on
a single and advanced on a wild pitch.
The Tars cut the lead in half in the fourth with an Avanzino
one-out solo shot. With a 2-1 count, Avanzino belted his first
homer of the year against Meyer for Rollins to trail the Hoyas,
4-2.
The teams exchanged runs in the fifth to keep it a two-run game,
but a five run eighth inning sealed the victory for Georgetown.
The Hoyas added three insurance runs in the ninth to finish with
13.
The Tars return to action, Friday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. against
Maine.
