WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2009) - Freshman
attackman Cooper
Gilman fired four shots between the pipes for Rollins, but
Rollins was unable to get past Catawba as the Tars fell 10-5 on
Tuesday afternoon. Despite Gilman's best efforts, the Tars move
to an overall mark of 1-2, 0-1 in Deep South Conference action,
while the Indians pick up their first victory of the season and sit
with a record of 1-3, 1-1 in DSC play.
Joining Gilman on the scoreboard was junior midfielder Andrew
Cohen, who registered his first goal of his collegiate career
on a fast break clear in the third quarter. Cohen also notched an
assist on the afternoon as he collected four ground balls and
caused three turnovers. Also registering assists on the day were
sophomore standout BJ
Neller, as well as freshmen Matthew
Lunnen and Andrew
Vossler.
Walking away with a big game on defense was sophomore Zach
Cole between the pipes. Cole made a total of 20 saves,
including 10 in third-period action, and led the team with five
ground balls. Meeting Cole's ground ball count was Vossler on
defense, who also led the team in caused turnovers with four on the
afternoon.
The Indians were headed-up by Marty Tuohy with three goals and
two assists for a total of five points, while midfielder Braden
Artem led the game after grabbing six ground balls.
Catawba kicked off the scoring in the first quarter as Artem put
the Indians up on the board with 9:14 remaining in the first
period. It wasn't until five seconds into the second period that
the next score was tallied as Catawba's Stephen Shuba ended almost
a ten minute scoring drought with an unassisted goal.
Gilman fired back a minute later to finally put the Tars up on
the board with 13:13 to go before the half, but with two tallies
from the Indians late in the quarter the Tars entered into the
break with a three point deficit as the score read 4-1 in favor of
Catawba.
Both teams traded off in third quarter play as Cohen
kick-started the action on his fast break from one end of the field
to the other to notch the Tars' second goal unassisted.
The Indians exploded into the fourth quarter with four straight
goals, jumping out to a 10-3 lead before Gilman closed out the day
with two quick goals at the 3:32 and 3:19 mark to close the gap to
five points.
Rollins will be back in action Wednesday, March 11, for their
second Deep South Conference matchup as they travel to Lakeland,
Fla. to take on Florida Southern in a 7:00 p.m. showdown. For the
