SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 21, 2009) –
The nation's number one team lived up to their standing Saturday
as top ranked Armstrong Atlantic bested No. 10 Rollins 8-1 in
Savannah.
Nick Rowlands as a bright spot for Rollins (3-1), scoring a 6-0,
6-1 upset win over 21st ranked Tim Johannsen.
The Tars dropped each of the three singles matches in straight
sets. Eighth ranked Rafael Array and Johannsen downed Gustavo
Carvalho and Neil
Clausen 8-4 in the top spot while Paul Bishop and Mikk Irdoja
beat Jeff
Morris and Adrian
Tan 8-2 at No. 2. AASU completed the sweep at No. 3 with
Edualdo Bonet and Paul Fitzgerald taking Bill
Rockwood and Rowlands 8-3.
Top ranked Bonet beat Tan 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles spot with
11th ranked Bishop taking 27th ranked Clausen 4-6, 2-0, ret. Irdoja
was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over 35th ranked Morris at No. 3, 37th ranked
array beat Rockwood 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and Fitzgerald downed
Carvalho 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Rollins will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at
Embry-Riddle.
