WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 20, 2009) - Three
Tars scored as the Rollins women's lacrosse team took on the
third-ranked Adelphi University Panthers Friday evening in Winter
Park. The nationally-ranked Panthers (1-0) took advantage of a
cold Central Florida evening as they defeated the Tars 19-3,
handing Rollins their first loss of the season.
Rollins (1-1) saw scoring efforts from sophomore attacker Liz
Connelly, freshman Cat
Kelley off of a Katy
Tyszko assist, and junior midfielder Marissa
Giannerini on the way to their three-goal game.
Defensively, Lisa
Weber saw plenty of action in goal as the Panthers dictated the
pace of the game on plenty of opportunities. The senior saw a
total of 44 shots throughout the evening, making a total of 10
saves as she faced 29 shots on goal.
Leading the Panthers was midfielder Michelle Ceraso as she
placed the ball between the pipes four times, with Erica Devito and
Holly Burke tallying three apiece.
Adelphi jumped out to a quick two point lead, scoring their
first goal just seconds into the contest off of a free position
goal from Kaitlyn Carter. But Giannerini put the Tars up on the
scoreboard in style off of a fast break down field and some fancy
stick work around a stingy Panthers defense to place the ball in
the back of the cage with 23:58 remaining in the first half.
The Panthers extended their lead with an eight-goal streak
before the Tars were able to answer back with a quick one-two
connection from Tyszko to Kelley from the back of the cage to put
the score at 10-2 with 8:32 to go before the half.
Connelly notched her goal off of a free position shot late in
the first half to round-out the scoring for the Tars on the
evening. Division II powerhouse Adelphi continued their scoring
storm into the second half as they notched five unanswered points
to reach their mark of 19 goals on the night.
The Tars will have plenty of time to recuperate before their
next game as they prepare to take on Gannon University on
Wednesday, March 4 in a 7:00 p.m. home game. Fans can check out www.RollinsSports.com, the
Tars home on the web, for more details.
