WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 14, 2009)
Led by 17 points and 10 rebounds from Jessica Pressley,
No. 21 Rollins ran away with a 73-53 victory over Nova Southeastern
on Saturday. Players, coaches and many fans wore pink to the game
in support of the fight against breast cancer.
Rollins (20-3, 10-3 SSC) never trailed in the contest and heads
into the final two weeks of the season with a one game lead in the
Sunshine State Conference standings.
Pressley shot 5-for-8 from 3-point range and set a new career
best with the 10 boards. Ines
Teuma added 11 points for the Tars with Jasmine
Bradley chipping in 10 off the bench.
Stephanie Sarosi led the Sharks (9-14, 5-7 SSC) and all scorers
with 26 points to go along with seven rebounds.
The Tars shot 44 percent (27-62) from the field, including 52
percent (12-23) from long range. Rollins also earned a 44-28 edge
on the boards in the game.
It took more than two minutes for either team to score with a Brittainy
Daiger jumper putting the Tars up 2-0. After the Tars built a
four point lead halfway through the period, Sarosi hit a trey to
pull Nova to within one, 17-16. Back to back jumpers by Teuma and
Daiger got Rollins rolling again as the game went to intermission
with the Tars up 37-25.
A barrage of 3-pointers, including two from Pressley scored from
beyond NBA range, pushed the Rollins advantage to 53-30 with 14:07
to go. Rollins turned up the heat and went up by as much as 26 with
three minutes to go.
The Tars will be back in action on Wednesday, February 18 at
home against Lynn. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. The first 300
Rollins students through the door will receive Tar-ible Towels.
