CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 11, 2009)
Rollins and 16 other schools converged on Charlotte, N.C. for the
2009 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships, running Feb.
11-14.
The Tars re-joined the BGMC after a three year stint hosting the
Sunshine State Championships on Orlando.
Headlining Rollins' efforts on the weekend are men's distance
swimmer Kamel Tejeda and women's backstroker Leandra Lima.
Tejeda posted the conference's top time in the 1000 yard
freestyle in the regular season, but will be gunning for the NCAA
"A" cut in the 500. The sophomore is third in that event with an
NCAA "B" cut time of 4:37.48 and will join last year's national
champion and Chris O'Linger of Tampa in the star studded event.
Lima, just a freshman, already has an NCAA "B" cut in the 100
yard backstroke, one of four in the event this weekend to reach the
standard. She is also ranked fifth in the 200 yard backstroke and
will be gunning for the NCAA mark.
Both swimmers are looking to become Rollins' first swimmers to
compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships.
