WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 29, 2009) - Brittainy Daiger poured in
17 points and Amber
Heistan added 13 as the Rollins women's basketball team downed
New York Tech 74-47, Tuesday afternoon in Warden Arena.
The Tars, coming off a 24 day reprieve, improve their record to
6-3 on the season while the Bears fall to 2-7.
Daiger scored 15 of her game-high 17 in the first half, behind
7-of-10 shooting from the field. Heistan was 5-of-12 from the floor
and added six rebounds to her 13 points. Brooke Burgess gave the
Tars a huge spark off the bench, tallying 13 points and a game-high
nine rebounds.
The Tars shot a season best 49 percent (30-61) from the field
and held NYIT to just 29 percent (16-54) shooting. Rollins earned a
huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding the visitors 42-30.
Latoya Anderson led 10 Bears who scored with eight points. Madison
Robertson netted seven while Thalia Jimenez and Jenny Eriksson each
added six.
Jimenez started the scoring with a 3-pointer on the Bear's first
possession before Rollins rattled off a 17-2 run to take a 12 point
lead with 12:21 to play in the half. The Tars continued to roll and
pushed the lead to 18 after a nifty Paris Moore feed and Daiger
layup with just over seven minutes to play. A pair of Heidi
Lacks free throws made it a 19 point game before the Bears
chipped away and cut the Tars advantage to 11, 36-25 at
intermission.
NYIT closed the gap to nine early in the second period, but the
Tars defense clamped down and the offense heated up from the
outside as the Rollins ran out to a 55-32 lead with 13 minutes to
play. Rollins then cruised in the second half and didn't allow the
Bears to get any closer than 17 the rest of the way.
Rollins will get right back to it on Wednesday, December 30,
hosting Maryville at 1 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on
the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5
