WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 24, 2009) Nick
Wolf led four Tars in double figures with 18 points as Rollins
downed Barry 71-58 in Sunshine State Conference action
Saturday.
Rollins improves to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play,
remaining in at least a tie atop the conference standings heading
into the final week of January. Barry falls to 6-11 and 1-6 in the
SSC.
Wolf added a game-high nine rebounds to his 18 points while
shooting 7-for-9 from the field. Zach
Pancratz was 10-for-11 from the free throw line and notched 15
points with Jeremy
Sharpe and Craig
Reichel each netting 10.
Karega Tucker led Barry and all scorers with 22 points to go
along with nine rebounds. Jamaal Madyun added 12 points and eight
rebounds.
After shooting just 34 percent (8-for-23) in the first half,
Rollins connected on 71 percent (12-for-17) in the second stanza to
even things out at 50 percent (20-for-40) for the game. The Tars
held Barry to just 38 percent (23-for-61) shooting, but the Bucs
owned the glass, out-rebounding the Tars 38-27.
Points were tough to come by for both teams in the first half
with Barry building a 14-9 lead over the first 10 plus minutes. A
pair of Matt Robertson free throws sparked a 13-2 Tars run,
punctuated by a Wolf trey, to give Rollins a 22-16 lead with 3:30
to play. Reichel hit a three later in the frame to push the Tars
lead to seven before a late Bucs score sent the teams into the
locker room with Rollins up 27-22.
The Bucs quickly erased the deficit and pulled even, 31-31 just
two minutes into the second half. Barry pushed the lead to 39-33
with 14 minutes left, but Rollins began to settle into their
offense as Reichel connected from long range with 10 minutes to go
to put Rollins back on top 41-40. Hogan hit from beyond the arc,
Reichel added another trey and Wolf scored a layup on the Tars next
three possessions to put the hosts up seven, 49-42. Seven straight
points by Wolf put Rollins up by 14 just two minutes later as
Rollins would remain ahead by double-digits the rest of the way,
posting their third straight victory.
Rollins will complete the first half of the conference season on
Wednesday, January 28 hosting Eckerd at 7:30 p.m. Fans can catch
all the action live on the Citizens Bank of Florida Tars Sports
