WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 14, 2009)
Rollins dug out of a late eight point hole, but the game tying
3-pointer rattled out at the buzzer as the Tars dropped a 73-70
decision to Lynn Wednesday night.
The defeat stopped Rollins' six game winning streak and drops
their record to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in Sunshine State Conference
play. Lynn improves to 12-3; 3-1 in the conference.
Kevin
Hogan was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field (4-for-4,
3-pointers) and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to lead Rollins
with 19 points. Nick
Wolf added 15 points and four assists while Jeremy
Sharpe netted 13 and Zach
Pancratz 11.
Chris Hall, the leading scorer in the conference entering the
game, led Lynn with 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting. John Brown added
13 off the bench while Michael Baptiste and Michel Vidal each
chipped in 11. Vidal gathered a game-high 12 rebounds to go along
with six blocks.
Lynn scored 22 second chance points in the game, due in large
part to a 20-9 advantage on the offensive glass and a 36-27 overall
rebounding edge. Rollins was also hampered by 19 turnovers while
forcing Lynn to 15.
The Tars shot 52 percent (24-of-46) from the field, including
7-of-17 from long range. LU was 29-for-65 (44 percent) from the
floor and just 6-for-9 (32 percent) from 3-point range.
Lynn scored first, but the Tars rolled off a quick 9-0 run to
take an early six point advantage. The hosts tied it up at 11
before building a six point lead of their own, 19-13 with 11:35
left in the half. Rollins battled back as Wolf connected on a pair
from the stripe with nine ticks left to push the Tars lead to
three, but Hall completed an old fashioned 3-point play at the
buzzer to send the teams in the locker room tied at 34.
With just two minutes left, Hogan drew a foul while shooting a
trey and made good on all three from the stripe to cut the lead to
four, 69-65. After a stop on defense, Nick
Wolf connected on a pair from the line to cut the lead to two,
but a tipped ball on defense led to a dunk by Brown to push the
Lynn lead back to four with 58 seconds left.
Needing a bucket, Wolf drained a 3-pointer from the right wing
to pull the Tars to within one, but Hall worked a layup for Lynn,
making the score 73-70 and setting up a final possession for the
Tars with 22 seconds. Pantratz lost the handle at the top of the
key, but Craig
Reichel came diving in to prevent the back-court violation and
found an open Sharpe on the left wing. His 3-point try rattled
halfway down, but popped out as the buzzer went off.
Rollins will be back on the road on Saturday, January 17,
traveling to Davie, Florida to battle Nova Southeastern at 4 p.m.
