MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (May 8, 2008) ' Rollins was
hampered by two errors in the first inning and Barry rolled up 12
hits in the game as the fifth seeded Tars fell to the top seed
Buccaneers 4-0 in the NCAA South Region Tournament on Thursday.
Rollins drops to the losers bracket and will play second seeded
Alabama Huntsville at 1:30 Friday.
Sherri Rabenold went 2-3 at the plate to lead the Tars (39-15).
Jamie Rausch and Ingrid Schumacher also had base knocks on the day.
Nicole Anderson suffered the loss in the circle, allowing four
runs, two earned, on 12 hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year Amber Jack stifled
the Tars lineup, scattering four hits and racking up seven
strikeouts. Megan Young hit 3-4 with an RBI and run scored to pace
the Buccaneers (42-6). Shyla Rider, Cristina DeTagle and Natalie
Heeley each had a pair of hits while Holli Davis drove in a
run.
Barry took advantage of two Tars miscues, both with two outs, to
take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Rabenold singled to lead
off the Rollins first, but Rollins couldn't capitalize. The Bucs
knocked out three hits in the third and plated another to take a
3-0 lead and tacked on a fourth in the seventh inning to put the
game away.'
