MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (May 9, 2008) ' Rollins had
to wait through a nearly five hour rain delay and couldn't get the
offense going as the Tars were knocked out of the NCAA Division II
South Region Tournament 3-0 by Alabama-Huntsville on Friday.
Freshman Christine Roser led the Rollins bats, going 2-3 with a
pair of singles while Monica Meadows and Rachael Foster each had
base knocks. Rachael Foster suffered the loss in the circle,
allowing five hits and three runs with two walks and nine
strikeouts.
Kristina Prater was the difference maker for the Chargers, going
2-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Beth Lawson supplied some
insurance for UAH (52-8) in the sixth with a two run homer, capping
off a 1-3 night. Sage Woodham was the winning pitcher, scattering
four hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Both team's bats woke up in the third as Kayla McCraney reached
on an error and Foster hit a single to put two on with one out. The
Tars couldn't capitalize, however, and left both stranded.
Huntsville then went ahead in the bottom of the third as
back-to-back doubles by Marilyn Cooper and Prater made the score
1-0.
The score remained that way until the sixth when Prater drew a
lead off walk and Lawson blasted a homer to dead center, putting
the game at 3-0.
The loss ends Rollins' season with a record of 39-16.
